Bill Hielscher began
drag racing with a '53 Oldsmobile in 1955, when he was 19 years
old. He was a formidable "weekend warrior" for 11 years
before
joining the ranks of professional drag racing in 1966. With major
sponsorship from the Bardahl Company, a manufacturer of automotive
lubricants, Bill quickly established himself as a force to be
reckoned with in AHRA (American Hot Rod Association) competition.
At the close of his professional career, which only lasted a
relatively short 6-1/2 years, Bill had won 37 major AHRA
championship race-nine of them in one year-and had been crowned
AHRA World Champion seven times! The most famous of Bill's Camaro
duo was the one equipped with a dual-quad 427 and 4-speed
transmission. The Exact Detail "Mr. Bardahl" Camaro faithfully
replicates this famous member of the Bill Hielscher stable of fine
drag race cars.
